Towton pipe support replacement programme
The steel reinforcement within the concrete pipe supports had corroded causing the concrete to crack and fail. JAS were awarded the contract to remove and recast new bases as well as excavate to expose the wind water line on the pipelines. (This is the transition from above ground to below ground where the pipe line has a wrapped coating to join the coating and paint protection techniques.) In back filling around the wind and water lines JAS set the site levels and installed new pin kerbing to define the sand boxes. Before removing the old supports JAS erected temporary wooden skid supports to specified designs and unbolted the supports from the pipeline. To remove the concrete supports JAS engaged the services of a specialist sub-contractor to wire cut them off just above ground level. We then prepared the surface, erected shuttering around new re bar and poured new bases.
Having previously blasted and treated the metal pipe saddles. These were refitted to the pipeline along with new seals.
